See title. Modern-ish metal stuff that I like as someone who mainly listens to older metal.
Avenged Sevenfold – Natural Born Killer (a good portion of a7x would count, but i didn’t want to oversaturate the list with a7x)

Wanted to post a song from Nightmare since I don’t see it being brought up a lot.
Ensiferum – Token of Time

Some great melodic death metal. Check them out if you like NWOBHM and power metal and want to get into death metal.
Power Trip – Executioner’s Tax

Power Trip is definitely my favorite modern thrash band.
Pentagram / Mezarkabul – Unspoken

Great Turkish heavy metal. Definitely check out Pentagram if you like what you hear. They also have some great Turkish folk metal stuff, and their first 2 albums are thrash.
Testament – F.E.A.R.

More thrash. Testament’s newer albums are awesome. Also check out Brotherhood Of The Snake.
Opeth – The Drapery Falls

Opeth is a really unique progressive death metal band. Really don’t know any other bands that sound like them. Even if you don’t like death metal, i’d recommend taking a listen.
