May I suggest adding another few lines of segments over the cracks or whatever they may be, that way if they are cracks it looks like they are cracks and not lava veins on their head.
Nice work though, I like the whole idea of taking what you can to learn from others, pretty intuitive.

The other way around, just slightly offset the angle and overlap that second layer and it should appear like cracks.
Throw in some gradients and half-arc ellipse gradients and you’ve even got a glow going.

Everything looks so detailed and I can really feel the personality
Only thing I’d say is maybe making the ring around the head a little more ring-like instead of blocky, unless that’s not what it is anymore
