Ok, I know it’s been suggested to death, but I have a fairly good idea for something to do after the sprite update: Just open-source the code and let all the fans see just how hard IK stickfigures actually are to code for themselves. Hell, maybe let them publish their builds as APKs.

As an open source enthusiast, I would honestly love to see Stick Nodes open sourced. Not sure if Ralph feels comfortable doing that to what I assume is his second biggest source of income tho xp

He said he makes a living off of it so I think it’s his primary source
Unless he does have a real job. Which would make sense as sales have to slow down at some point

I feel like I heard him say he makes more off ads on the site than Stick Nodes Pro sales. I could be misremembering tho

Oh
Well in that case I’m getting an ad blocker, to deprive him of a few cents

Code. Code in the ability to animate vector layers by way of middleman software no matter how much of your soul it steals.

And I’m talking the plugin, too.

I bet making an export feature will be an afterthought, but this is deadass gonna be the most revolutionary thing ever.
-
And I’m talking the plugin, too.

What about open nodes?
That’s also pretty revolutionary.

this is kinda cancelled indefinitely lmaoooo

to be transparent, i dont really wanna make styx anymore, really because of how niche this is and how little it will benefit most people
i might develop plugins in the future for better vector support as the devs of Krita are kind of neglecting that (Krita is supposed to be a bitmap-based program)
but for now, im kinda cancelling this

Hot take: SN addons, that way, we can do the anti-features ourselves. That should make us all happy.
Also, device-variable node limits.
-
There’s already going to be a inf nodes option.

Not for stickfigure creation I don’t think

Plugins planned for SN PC.
Also there’s ongoing Open Nodes project which also plans on implementing something like that.
Though there needs to be people to make these plugins still.
-
Replying to:
I think SN PC will be more of a forefront for promoting Stick Nodes to more dedicated users because as of right now we’re running on kids, teens and young adults with a few older ones contributing to it.
It’s less so much of the age necessarily but more just the amount of people that use Stick Nodes as an animation and art medium.
We get SN PC to a high enough standard and promote it well enough and hopefully things will piece itself together better going forward.
-
Replying to:
SN PC will very likely just not be a “sidegrade” to Stick Nodes, it’ll most likely be a straight up better option for everyone (especially advanced users) since it’ll be built from the ground up and not using the already messy structure of SN mobile. (based on what ive been hearing)
Why would you choose a mobile version of an app if it has less functionality and less features, I won’t be surprised if SN mobile is gonna become the “sidegrade” app when SN PC comes out, honestly
-
Replying to:
^ this
SN PC is planned to be a whole ass software similar to Flash or Moho. It’s gonna be such a major change that the mobile app won’t receive any updates anymore… Probably. So yeah, sprite update, maybe some small additions, then sn for mobile will be deemed “complete”, until we will get some sn pc feature integrations or compatibility tweaks.
-
Replying to:
Wait, pc is gonna be the main platform and the mobile one may not receive any more major updates?
I mean, it doesn’t matter since I have a pc, but could there be a way to connect a touch device and animate using said touch device? Since using a mouse while animating will most likely be a huge pain for those who aren’t used to it, including me.
-
Replying to:
A lot of stuff are still up in the air when it comes to sn pc. While connecting phone to animate on pc sounds interesting, there’s probably gonna be a lot of issues regarding it.
Altough the goal will be to make sn pc as easy to use, or easier than it is on mobile.
-
Replying to:
Yeah.
But it doesn’t matter how easy it is to use, I’ll probably just stick to mobile as I suck with mouse lol

Ahem,
i may or may not make plugins if this is really the case-
Replying to:
You and vince really should work together no joke. The plugin system for Open Nodes is still barebones foundation so it could be great to have some sort of coding hybrid.
-
Replying to:
The problem is that Open Nodes is a standalone software while styx is just a plugin for Krita
and Krita doesnt really have support for javascript or rust, other than the Qt5 framework having community support for rust, which mind you is literally for the UI and nothing else
i really think it would just be better if someone were to create figures in open nodes then open krita and put them to use
-
Replying to:
Maybe once both of them are out put a “create Stickfigure option” and then take them/tell them to go to the open nodes download lol
