Ellipse of a slightly darker shade, then another on top of that ellipse slightly over to which ever side works with the shirts original color. You can get more complex but in general, slightly darker color covered partly by the shirts original color.

But in all reality I mostly use references and just find out how the clothes fold around the characters body
