UNFORGIVEN (1992)

Unforgiven is a 1992 revisionist Western directed by and starring Clint Eastwood, who also stars in the film as William Munny, a former gunslinger who is recruited to hunt down the men who were involved in the mutilation of a prostitute. He then has to face the reputation of his past as he clashes with the sheriff of the town (Gene Hackman).

UNFORGIVEN (2013)

Unforgiven (Yurusarezaru Mono) is the 2013 Japanese language feature film remake of the 1992 Clint Eastwood Western of the same name. The setting of the remake moves to the late 19th century Japan shortly after the start of the Meiji Era and stars Ken Watanabe as Jubei Kamata, a former samurai with a reputation of being a brutal killer who is asked by a former associate to accept a bounty to kill the men who attacked and disfigured a prostitute.

Hey clown town that said it’s a shot for shot remake. You’re wrong.
“This movie is an homage to the spaghetti westerns that made Clint Eastwood. They took eastern samurai stories and made them westerns. This does the opposite. It takes an original western script and turns it into an eastern samurai story. Is it perfect? No but it’s beautiful. It’s worth your time.”
