Unibody vs body on frame is the style in which a car is built. Body on frame is the oldest way of manufacturing a vehicle, because of its simplicity, acceling in offroad performance, towing capacity, and easier repair, however, body on frame cars lack the safety that unibody frame cars provide, although unibody cars are inferior in towing and offroading, they provide proper safety to occupants. Unibody cars where first invented in the 1920s, but didn\’t gain traction until the 1950s, and really became popular when the malaise era hit (higher gas and oil prices, which made big cars more expensive to own) in the 1970s. Because of this, cars like the cadillac eldorado and the chevrolet caprice either had to move to unibody construction or be discontinued all together. Leaving only trucks and semis to use body on frame construction.
