How did your journey into animation begin? You can likely trace it back to a single event, what was it?
In my case, it was a wack-ass 90s commercial for a kid’s website that 9-year-old-me decided to check out. It has a stickfigure “animation” game. I thought it was neat.

I can’t say I remember what my first step into animation was, but I vaguely remember there being a 3d animation app on Androids that used Minecraft’s assets and artstyle. I also remember making an animation with that app of someone breakdancing (awfully) and showing it off to some friends at school. Wait, did I actually show it off to them…?
Ah, the app seems to now be called “Animation free!” Gee, could’ve fooled me
what an awful name lmao
#sticknodes
Around 4 years ago, I actually got into animation/drawing with flipaclip, I found sticknodes after getting tired of having to manually redraw every frame, I looked for a different animation app, and I came across sticknodes. And I would only use flipaclip to draw but then I gave that up and decided to draw by hand instead since it’s way easier (IMO) to draw with a pencil instead of my finger.
So basically I only exist here rn due to laziness
you can probably take it further though
why did you have flipaclip?
Sure, I think.
I had gotten into art at a very young age, around the 3rd grade, and was so fascinated by the fact that you could make art move, I used to buy a bunch of sticky notes and draw stickfigures on each one since I saw a guy do it on youtube, and I was like “I wanna do that” so I started making flipbooks for a while, before being gifted a small tablet a year later, since I was so into flipbooks I looked it up on the app store and came across flipaclip, it was exactly what I had in mind.
In that same year when we had to write what we wanted to be when we grow up for an assignment, I actually wrote “animator” lmao
wholesome
one time (probably like 2014 or 2012) while I was at a cousins house, I saw them using pivot. so first thing I did when I got home was download it, make some zombie animations, then try (and fail) to upload them to YouTube.
That computer later died a horrible & terrible death in 2018 so all that stuff’s forever lost to time.
probably for the better
why everyone’s story always ends like that, me too
rip all my old pivot animations
Dio successfully shoplifted from Shopify
Anyways, I think the first animation I ever done was with Sticknodes back in 2015/16 on a old Android. This was back then when all of the Stickfigures had solid background colors or white backgrounds. I used to draw comics and stickfigures running, as well as watch some cartoons. That is probably where I got the idea for animating from.
Until recently I’ve been really off and on about Sticknodes. But I’ve never really used a alternative animation software, and never got into flip a clip too much. I did use a Pivot-Like animator (Probably a Lite version?) for a bit and played games that looked like they were made in Pivot.

I’ve always had a knack for drawing. Any bit of animation or drawing completely fascinated me. I was enthralled with it. But I guess I got it from watching Allen Becker. His stick figures finding themselves in the funniest scenario’s. Then I found sticknodes. And here we are
based becker
Hey, back off or I will @ you to the next milinium

I think my inspiration to start creating animation came somewhere around from youtube or something lmao.
I started like 11 or 12 years ago with making mega bloks and lego stop motion on my Nintendo 3DS, I still have a huge collection of garbage on there. Then I eventually switched from stop motion to making 2D animation, I really don’t make stop motions anymore.
Definitely watching stickfigure animations on YT, got me interested. When I surfed across all the boof ones is when I said “no way it’s that hard”. That was lil Arzen. Now I understand people have different skill levels and skill sets. Still better than they were.
sticknodes randomly appeared on my school tablet. i deleted it and a couple years later i was like “hey what was that sticknodes thing” and here we are.
i deleted it
understandable
Sticknodes iirc
That or flipa clip
I can’t really recall
but why
Bored
long story
there’s gotta be some singular moment that started it all you can describe in like 5 words
do it
Alright, so… first thing…
Dinosaur and Monster animators going crazy on the internet. the videos were some of the most engaging content imo for a long time.(This was long ago before YT cared much for copywrite so much.)
These videos would have some of my favorite metal tracks in the background too.
eventually I would get your app after randomly coming across it on the appstore and noticing it’s similarities to the previously mentioned animations. and it all went down hill from there.
5 WORDS
Idk man, seems like 5 words to me.
It’s only accessible in bible-length form.
tl;dr
Mine started around 5 years ago when I was watching those stickman Shock videos and I thought it was so awesome. I was already really into drawing stickmen and Lego stop motion and post-it note animations. So when I found this app I just let my imagination go wild and it just went on from there.
During my hard stick figure phase, I watched a TON of videos, collabs, etc. Hyun’s Dojo was like where I usually saw things, and there was this unexplainable urge to get into this, to do it myself, to become that skilled.
After a while of searching, I stumbled across the app and have been using it ever since…I’ve learned so much since then. All of it went to waste.
good times
It started when my brother was animating SSJ4 Goku and Canon Goku destroying Naruto (Yes that is true), It caught my eye for a while and soon, I downloaded the stick nodes app… the free one-
I was into BATIM so I made stks of those but then data was lost bc I made It all on a chromebook so I started making Godzilla Stks but that also vanished and then I made Godzilla Stks again but they all also perished.
I believe I was looking for more stks to modify when I saw this website, I was just a guest for a good few months.
based brother
I remember like it was yesterday (there’s 2 tho)
1) 2018 of February I was watching YouTube on the TV before going to school, that was when I saw a YouTube video on my recommended called Animation Vs. Minecraft.
Seeing that video just unlocked new parts of my brain and I instantly developed a love for stickfigures and 2d animation, and I wanted to start animating.
2) 2019 of November and I was sitting at my school lunch table until a kid named Caden was making comic books with me but soon after he showed me Stick Nodes. (If you want the full story about how I ended up here go to my 2021 end of the year post)
As I remember it, I was bored one day just sitting around. I was around 6 – 8.
I was looking around for apps in the play store, and I don’t really remember how but I was drove over to animation. Probably because of the animations at hyun’s dojo were cool.
So I downloaded Stick Nodes, and the exact moment it all began:
I animated naruto lifting his leg in 2 frames. The project no longer exists so it’s somewhere out there in space and time.
I would get okay at animation over some years, I switched from stick nodes to drawing cartoons, and then on my pc I would get pivot animator, switch between drawing cartoons and stick nodes again, then finally as it is now I would stick with stick nodes. Not because it was a better app than any other, but because I found out there was a community.
Then I spoke my first words: “I have some stickfigure coming soon uwu”
Somewhere in between all of this though I had gotten good at piano and art during the time which is why my skill lies where it is now.
I have some stickfigure coming soon uwu
this should have been the end of your internet career but you fell through the cracks and survived
Yeah It’s because he survived that now we should be running as fast as we can and hiding as good as possible
Pretty sure I started my animation in 2017-2019, dont clearly remember though. First animation I’ve done was DC2, but deleted it cause there wasn’t a lot of stuff for me to animate on and there really wasn’t any effect I could find. Next I searched up “PIVOT” in my small tablet, and that’s when I found sticknodes. I was excited at first and I began animating it. OBVIOUSLY IT SUCKED they kept teleporting and I was getting frustrated with that, and then deleted it. Few months over i redownloaded it back again and then tried again, still sucked and then deleted it. Kept this going for a while until I watched a few tutorials from YouTube, and i just found out the purpose of stickfigure library. Later on I soon found out some stuff that I wasn’t really sure about and then i improved from a few year experience.
Yeah…
lmao @ the deleting
At this point I realised half of the learning process of using SN is just losing progress.
It started back in 2013-2014 (or even earlier, actually it was probably more around 2011) when i realized i could make shitty stop motion videos using my 3ds camera. Claymation was really fun lol. I’m gonna have to dig for that thing soon, it’s been too long since I looked at those memories.
I was fascinated by a certain channel named “Alex Covas” and tried to make his same type of videos, particularly shit involving kirby. It’s genuinely weird to think where I started lol.
I wanted to be a video game model animator way back (Not anymore) and since I’m too broke to buy a legit animation program I got Stick Nodes, I think it had some of the best reviews at the time. Not really a journey into animation because I suck at it and couldn’t animate to save me mom’s life, but it’s still SN
all that cost for spam Indian botfarm reviews paid off
I have always been one with the art
Then a couple days after my birthday I was like, “Yo this stick figure stuff looks fire, might try it”
And now here we are
Was bored in 2015
thats what orange and black youtube is for
why animation specifically
That shits more boring
Ngl I cant even remember why exactly. I did watch many pivot animations prior but I only got influenced by those after a year of using sticknodes
I just kinda tried to find an animation app that was something like yours when I was somewhere around 8. I was browsing the App Store and came across Sticknodes. It all started with the animation “two guys,” and everything else isn’t that interesting.
Well my friendingly friend friending friendilingilng friendzilla friend. Mine started when I just got the urge to animate things. I looked on my tablet (didn’t even know about pivot, just got the idea) and decided that I wanted to animate 2d rigged animation, kinda like 3d. I looked and didn’t find anything. Then I came across Sticknodes, I was so happy. I was confused at first like how to add more figures, the I figured out how. Then I animated. It stunk, I wasn’t that good since I just started, but I was happy. Then I wanted to learn how to join stickfigures together and color separate nodes, which I found out. Then I learned about tween and used that. Then, I made my first smooth and decent animstion without tween. Symbiotic Spiderman vs Wolverine. I put a lot of effort into it. It wasn’t bad, but now I can make a similar animation in like 5 minutes. So that shows improvement. So I just kept animating without tween and soon I stumbled across undertale. I thought it was a weird game but downloaded it anyway. And 20 bags filled with tears later I decided to make animations of it. So that’s when I started to make undertale animations. Then I made a Sticknodes group. And after becoming the most hated person on Sticknodes after 1 day, I realized my mistake, apologized, and made a new undertale group to erase the drama. And that’s where I get here now. Day 3-4 on Sticknodes. So that my friendiling friend friendly chum friendilingly friendadengadingdong is how I started.
i still hate you
Geez don’t need to be so harsh friendalenda friendiliy friend chum pal homeslice friendilily friendish friend of the friendiless friendship!
(A joke btw)
friendzilla
I wonder what that’s supposed to mean
No! I wasn’t mocking you! Don’t atomize me like you did to Sean!
I do love the thrill of seeing someone die regardless of reasons so why shouldn’t I have fun killing you?
Because. My dear friend, I have something everyone on the internet is afraid of. The very thing people are scared of the moment they open the browser.
I
Have
DEAD MEMES FROM PEOPLE WHO THINK THEIR FUNNY
YOU GOT GNOMED
Ho ho ho ha ha, ho ho ho he ha. Hello there, old chum. I’m gnot an elf. I’m gnot a goblin. I’m a gnome. And you’ve been, GNOMED’
I’m not scared as I am just confused, I don’t understand any of this so I’m just gonna abolish you to the sun at mach 10
excuse me its theyre not their
I was typing super fast. So some spelling mistakes slip through the cracks
My adventure with animating was kinda wacky as all hell. I remember the time I tried to animate a stickfigure making a kamehameha (I never even seen dbz so no clue how I got the idea), in ms paint and windows movie maker at 1 fps. Was surprisingly decent for like a 6(?) year old. Later on my brother showed me those Stickfigure Randomness videos, as well as Pivot.
There was also a moment when I tried out Mine-imator, inspired by crapload of Minecraft animations that surfaced in like 2012, making a Slamacow rip-off (lmfao). But also coming up on my own with a proper facial rig. This may or may have not contributed to the shenanigans with rigging i do today in Stick Nodes lol.
As for the SN itself, was looking around for animation apps before summer camp back in 2014, I don’t remember if I found the app by searching “animation” or “pivot”, but that was my first experience with the software.
Skip ahead to 2016, Amino app became popular and every single Undertale YouTuber was being sponsored to promote the app. Decided to give it a shot, then went into other sub communities of the app when searching “animation”, recalled SN and decided to give it a search. That’s where I found a small community of like 25 people. My crippling social anxiety made me shit myself not realising these aminos are fanmade by teens and was not managed by the actual Amino Team, but lol… Rest is kinda self explanatory as to what happened.
Also yeah I strayed off the animation topic a bit but fuck you I’m too cool for the rules 😎
animating in MS paint 1 frame at a time, rigging faces with some minecraft nonsense
it all makes so much sense now
you enjoy looking for complication
It was the first signs of insanity.
i dont remember the exact event because i was pretty young but i think that i uh.. searched animation or something in the appstore because i was unhappy with most animation apps
that or it was recommended to me in the appstore
It was Stop Motion Animation. Y’know, That dead art that was popularized when cgi wasn’t a thing.
We moved, and I was unable to continue animation due to shit that was lost in the move.
Then I remembered a stupid 2D Animation app I downloaded when I was 10. Viola.
4 words:
Stickman Animator by Yamur.
I stil vividly remember finding this ap and thinking “Animating stickmen and stuff, Why not ?”.
It was in late 2014.
Then, did stuff on it for sometimes, then, well… “I feel limited”
So I started testing stuff on different aplications “No, nope, nein, non…”
…
“Stick nodes? What is it?”
…
“Not smooth at all, no”
And then 5-10 apps later…
“Yeah… The app that looked the most complete was SN… F*ck it, I’m giving it another chance”
It was around early 2015, I mess around a lot with it, i begin to talk about it with some of my family members
And then in 2016,
my parents offer me SN pro for my birth day
I know, it’s only around 2 bucks but they know me pretty well and it did made me happy, simply because:
1-Broke
2-“Sounds for 2$? Nah”
Aaaaannd…
You know more or less the rest
Started using the app around early 2018, didn’t even know there was a website until 2020.
