King of the estuaries, and granddaddy to all the Alligators of the USA, is our next contender.

    Deinosuchus.

Deinosuchus, meaning “terrible crocodile”, was more in the lines of a Bus sized Alligator than a Giant Crocodile, with a robust build and a thicker, almost rounded jaw like a gator than the conical, almost troangular shape associated with crocodiles. Living on both sides of the Western Interior Seaway in brackish estuaries and occasionally venturing out to sea to feast on sea turtles, fish, and other aquatic prey, it is known that it would occassionally hunt hadrosaurs and other dinosaur species that came to the water’s edge, performing a deathroll when caught.

But here, it is content just lounging on the shoreline.
