“Upon visiting the Stegosaurus paddock, I was happy to see the trio fat and content, enjoying any vegetation their beaks can reach. Not even trees are safe from these up to seven ton animals. Their small heads, while seemingly quite bad at getting enough food into their gullets, they are quite adapt to strip off leaves or grasses and swallowing, and later regurgitating it in a fashion similar to ruminants such as cattle or sheep or deer, chewing the partially digested plant matter and then swallowing, repeating the process a few more times before swallowing for the last time. An easier way to extract all the nutrients they can with teeth actually capable of the job, albiet not as good as Hadrosaurs.

“With their back plates and spiked tails, they had few predators in both the past and in the sanctuary, as not even a Tyrannosaurus, predators adapted to deal with heavily armoured herbivores, don’t usually tangle with an animal with the armour of an Ankylosaur and the horns of Ceratopsian on its powerful tail.

“This has led to the ones in captivity becoming extremely docile and lazy. This has led to them being extremely food driven when conducting examinations, with a few squares of hay placed in the room taking up the Stegosaurus’ attention as we saw how the animals were, health wise.

“If only most other animals here were this easy to distract.”
