2018-08-20 01:10:04 UTC i dont get all of this hate on scarf figs or stick fig in general.sure they are not detailed but they are interesting to see in fights and animations naf shows proof of this all of his tutorials are awesome and is the reason im doing better at animating. detailed looks good but you can’t do much with them.right now im my project im animating slapman a very undetailed charatcter but ive been able to make him do flips, back flips, kip ups, combos.thing’s i rarely can do with arch mewlia and fatman.hell i was thinking about making leader detailed but then i look at slapmans moves and then i change my mind sure people like jack and ect dont like him but he can whip some ass with his fist.

well, i don’t see much hate going on with just plane base’s but it’s another thing if they have a scarf, go to your local stick nodes animo to see the deep in of scarf hell. they are just simply overused and lack being creative. people don’t care if you just have a little bit of detail, but you see an scarf figure everywhere, and listen your oc’s are amazing! and nobody can remember some base with an scarf, i’m not saying base figures are bad, but i’m saying adding the little things that are original is what makes people come back for more.
well it doesn’t look like there was much love for plain figs arch is only recognized and loved when he got his new looks but back then arch was sh*t on. one time i remember asking epitaph would arch and mewlia make a great couple and he said and quote “make him look better if you going to do that he looks too simple”… well thats how i remember it. im still mad about so few people seeing the huge fight with him vs raptor that took me a mouth to make.

Vamrack. You’re unfortunately contracting key signs of Scarf Syndrome. Now don’t panic, you’re not going to die, just listen closely.
The key trait I’ve seen from you is “detailed figs can’t be moved as intensely, therefore simple figs are justifiable”. This is simply wrong. It’s not the fig, it’s the snimators skill and ability to adapt, improvise and think outside the box. If you can’t get a detailed fig to do something you want, then you simply aren’t using your brain.
You’ve made hilarious animations and used clever animation techniques, this should be child’s play to you, you’re a better animator than me yet i still have to show you how detailed figs will always be better.

I don’t like em because they lack GOOD character design.
I don’t mind simplicity, aslong as it conveys the character smoothly.
But most scarf figs don’t.
I mean, look at Mei’s RHG
What the hell does a white fig with a purple/pink scarf say ANYTHING about the character?
well i gave a good personality in my heart of a hero movie… wait i did that not mei😢 sh*t
also design means nothing fatman use to look light a circle with shorts and cape that looked like a scarf.
Design means a lot tho.
Design makes it easier for your audience to understand your character without having to do a deep dive into.
Also it’s not the scarf that’s the problem, it just that it’s the only defining feature of those figs, and because it is the only thing that doesn’t make it a straight up base fig, a lot is riding on it, a pressure most people can’t pull off with Justin a scarf

Your version of the character is far better than the creators version, however a 5 year old could pull that off, Mei’s characters are possibly some of the most boring scarf figs I’ve seen in a while, possibly even more than the Elements cast.

Also, Fatman was unique. He was simple but he had a distinct appearance that made him stand out, he’s the round dude with the cape, easy to tell who he is and easy to tell he’s the gag character.
Leader on the other hand is just a stickfigure with a hard to see helmet, nothing original.

I remember clicking on one of Meis videos to understand why people were obsessed with her, especially Vamrack.
The cringe was so hard i nearly irl coughed up bile. couldn’t stand more than 10 seconds.
but i do understand that most scarf user arent to good. only one i really like is naf because his animations are amazing but does not do storys sadly.
it’s just an overused thing, it’s funny how capes are ok tho lol
