Their design don’t fit any ears, for it to fit, your concha must be super wide and perfectly round, which no human has, and your tragus is supposed to hold it in place…
You don’t have to be an engineer to figure out that this is a huge design flaw, obviously your concha isn’t wide enough to accomodate the airpods, which leads to pressure inside the ears and eventually you’ll break one or two ear bones, and also obviously, your tragus is flimsy and won’t hold anything in place.
On tangling, you must be a sadist because no one, NO ONE wants to spend 10 minutes untangling a fragile cable, it’s a waste of time and you might just snap the cable
On the design, it’s the very definition of plain, it’s just white with some gloss accents and that’s it, color isn’t expensive, nor is transparent plastic ( the 5$ VE Monk Plus has a transparent design and it’s interesting to look at, you can see the driver, the circuitry, where the cable connects and whatnot )
On bluetooth, bluetooth SUCKS for audio, there’s no redeeming qualities about it, yeah you don’t have a cable anymore but at a HUGE cost, significantly worse sound quality, unreliable pairing, even more unreliable connection and of course, latency.
Sure it’s gotten a lot better since then with better codecs like AptX and
LDAC which improves on bluetooth, but they still don’t fix the unreliable connection problems, latency has improved but it’s still high.Oh and did I mention that because you don’t have wires, you have to recharge ? Also that they will fall off easier than a wired earbud ?
TL:DR :
2.4 Ghz should’ve been the industry standard from the get go

Apple airpods are a hate crime to your ears, change my mind
Here’s the laundry list of problems they have :
Doesn’t fit any ears, highly uncomfortable
Terrible sound quality, even 20$ earbuds sound better ( see Moondrop Chu ) or hell, even 5$ ones ( see VE Monk Plus )
Bluetooth, don’t need to elaborate on that
Overpriced because it’s apple ( despite being inherently designed to cost nothing to produce )
Doesn’t isolate sound at all due to the stupid ” open back ” design it has, worst part is, it’s not actually open back, if you want an open back earbud, make an open back earbud ( see Audeze LCD3i ).
The wired version tangles all the dang time ( though maybe that’s necessary evil because since then, other companies have developed tangle-free cables, thanks apple but at the same time screw you )
The design is boring af, just plain white, kind of looks dystopic in a way ( oh wait it is, so many people are using airpods, unaware of the existence of something called ” in-ear monitors ” which offer sound quality and comfort a septillion times better than they will ever do ! )
How in the world do they accumulate that much earwax ?

iems are superior in every way and i can personally verify this myself
i use my cheap ass $20 iems on the daily
i havent touched the real airpods i got for free about a few months ago even once
I used to use an overpriced TWS from JBL, thinking it was good…
Then I discovered a video on why TWS sucks, and I fell into a deep deep rabbit hole…

I had 80$ to prove that earbuds will always suck
I got the Moondrop Aria, lo and behold, I felt like the rapture has been brought about once I clicked play, the heavens tore apart in 2 and an angelic choir came to me
I was wrong in every way imaginable, IEMs are freaking amazing ! So I put the JBL back on again and felt like it was violating my ears, both physically and when listening.
So I used them as a doorstopper ever since.
Moral of the story : believe in change
