Sonic 2020: On a Distant Planet, Sonic is intercepted and sent to Earth by his caretaker after a sacrifice to save him from the Echidna Clan. He is then hunted by government agent Dr. Ivo Robotnik and ends up at Tom Wachowski's house. When he is about to use one of his Warp Rings, he is hit in the leg by a tranquilizer dart fired by Tom, causing Sonic to fall unconscious. They then confront Robotnik and build trust until Sonic, after sending Robotnik to the Mushroom Planet, is adopted by the Wachowski family.

Sonic 2: Robotnik, after being isolated on the Mushroom Planet for almost a year, returns now allied with an echidna named Knuckles. They fight against Sonic and Tails until, together forming Team Sonic, they battle Eggman in his Death Egg robot. But the only one truly able to put an end to this threat was Sonic in his Super form.

Sonic 3: In a maximum-security facility called Prison Island, the systems are hacked by Dr. Gerald Robotnik, freeing Shadow. Team Sonic, Robotnik, and Agent Stone encounter Gerald Robotnik and Shadow, who cause Robotnik and his henchman to betray the heroes. But in the end, Shadow and Robotnik have a redemption arc and sacrifice themselves to save the world.
