I suppose I should explain why Nyaf is almost a totally different person now. It all started when I saw this specific video:

And I thought “wow, this fangame puts a really expressive and cool ass twist on Sonic here, you can practically feel the speed, slight edge and attitude emanating from him”. Then I thought “what if Nyaf had that too?”
I realised quite quickly that something like this didn’t at all need a total redesign, something I REALLY didn’t want anyway. Nyaf’s body was perfectly cool on its own, having the exact edge to him I wanted.
The problem came with the head.
And it’s a perfectly good head, don’t get me wrong. I enjoy looking at it, and I do like it. But I noticed that it was the one thing stopping him from having that effect, that specific edge. It was simply too cute, which isn’t a problem unless you want a different tone for your character, which I did.
So, I got to work and came up with this:
I’m not even gonna take all the credit, I simply don’t deserve it. None of this would’ve been possible without @milkymurderer‘s guidance and expertise. Genuinely, Nyaf would not have looked as cool without her, she was a really big help.
Thanks to our efforts, Nyaf now has a signature edge to him that’s just awesome to look at. I mean, look at him, he’s awesome-

Now I don’t know exactly how you envision this character, and his personality, but personally I like the first one more. Yes, it’s cuter, but cute doesn’t represent a character. Look at Kirby. He can be destructive, reckless, and short sighted. This may cause some to see him as a villain, like Meta-Knight, who was only trying to defend (uh, smth I don’t remember). I also feel like it takes away most of the fish p-nes any giving him human eyes, but he is a genetically modified thingie right? So that should work out.
But, this is your character, I’ll support you all the way. Good job on the markings, they look pretty cool

Thanks for your support, though I know that cute doesn’t represent a character, which is why making him less cute wasn’t my focus when I designed this new face. That would be bringing a different part of him to the spotlight. Yeah, Kirby’s cute on the outside, and he does have some aspects of him that almost directly contradict that. But, I’m not looking at the character’s properties, I’m looking at their design. Kirby looks harmless, which is juxtaposed by the power within him. That juxtaposition isn’t what I’m aiming for, but a straightforward look that points to what a character is? That’s my intent. I knew that not everyone would’ve liked this new face, but it’s the direction I want to take Nyaf in. Look at Sonic, he’s cool, blue, filled with attitude in everything he does. That’s what I want. A design that correlates nicely to the character’s true characteristics rather than a unique twist that ends up surprising people. I think I’ve achieved that, and I’m happy for it.

No but seriously, I think I get what you where going for now, and it’s done very well. Although, no amount of changing his face will change my fish craving…
