How did that happen? Also good for you.
I was on their discord, and I admitted to pirating the game to see if it was dead or still had an active player base. (I was going to pay for it, though) There was no one online, so I asked if anyone still plays on their discord, and admitted to pirating it due to the reason to see if it was dead.
The developer saw this and offered to give me a free copy of the game. Very nice dude
