“Legend of the Pineapple, Cursed Variant”

“This story originates from my land, the Philippines. Now, some of you may have heard this story, and some of you may have not. There was once a girl named Pinã (Pineapple). She was a beautiful woman. When her mother told her to get the pot, she replied: “I cannot find it mother” though it was right next to her. She was a lazy woman. Her mother told her: “Use your eyes”. The next day, her mother told her to go get the basket outside, she went out but never came back. Now, in the famous well known version of the story, she turned into the first pineapple but, this is what they never told you. When she went outside, she couldn’t find the basket. Her stupidity led her to a forest. She heard a mysterious sound coming from behind a thicket (dense group of bushes). She saw a “fairy” named “Alishiawanda” who was secretly a demon. She forced the girl to worship her but she refused. She killed the girl and took her soul and stuffed it into a fruit. She said “Poor wandering mind, you cannot find whatever you are told to find. And you did not worship me, In return, I give you many eyes, but you can never return to your mother. Your name is Pinã so I shall call thy fruit a pineapple”.
