(I just wrote something for AP world history and I don’t know what took over me help! Here’s the thing)

We study history to better ourselves and to not make the same mistakes our ancestors did, likewise we also study history to learn from them as well. We also study history to understand some cultures and traditions that occur throughout history, such as good Juma, which is Islamic. We study history to learn about the past and the present, which helps us learn who not to be in life. We study history to learn about world leaders, such as Winston Churchill, and worldwide events like Covid, or world war 2. Dr. Peter N. Stearns provides a couple of reasons for studying history such as; useful in the world of work, good citizenship, identity and moral understanding. There are a lot more that he listed in the article, but those are the ones that stood out to me the most, why? Because we may choose to get a job that is in the field of history, learning about history extensively may help that person get a better job in that field. Another thing the article said was good citizenship, which can be helpful for foreigners coming over to live in our country, they can learn what’s bad to say to us, what’s good to say to us, what’s our economy, what’s our culture and much more. The article also states identity. Many races have been involved throughout history, and that may affect your identity it may not, you’ll never know unless you study about it. The last thing I listed was moral understanding, and moral means; concerned with the principles of right and wrong behavior and the goodness or badness of human character. Moral understanding in this case scenario means knowing what’s right and what’s wrong, using people from the past, you can understand what’s morally wrong and what’s morally right. However every person is unique in what they think is right and wrong but everyone can agree about what’s morally wrong using history. What we get from studying history is life lessons and understanding of the world around us and what’s it’s been through, and what we can do to help the planet stay alive for much longer then us. I want to study history to help better myself, to help people understand my perspective and theirs, to find my own identity and help others find their identity as well. I’ve always gotten good grades in history, but that won’t get me far for just getting good grades, I want to find my own reason to study history, and I’m hoping this class helps me find it. My mom also says that I’m like a lawyer, using the facts and evidence from history to help me, or someone else. Which I think is funny.
