Looks like ice to me. I think the particles in the ball make it look that way. Maybe without the particles it would look cleaner and it would more resemble energy. Since you were going for ice I’d say you nailed it!

idk but i feel like you could make the ball affect the lighting on the default, enveloping him in cooler tones to give the impression of coldness
Honestly I think you got it. But the original to me looks more like an energy ball.
