you should experiment and get a little more creative and bold with your highlighting/shadows, that’s a big part to depth and making things pop
imagine an ambient light source in your scene and highlight/shadow accordingly
and something I learned a long time ago, don’t just “make the color darker” for shadows (and vice versa for highlights) – get creative
typically shadows are darker+BLUER, and highlights brighter+YELLOW
idk that always stuck with me and it’s given me good results in my game art stuffs ever since
