So is the hairstyle your trying to make dreadlocks? Or is it long hair, I will try find a reference image for whichever one your going for. I think if you use the reference to fix the hairline it could look a lot cleaner : )

https://goo.gl/images/zLgQCs Just notice the hairline, not the hair in particular. See how it ends higher up the forehead and tucks behind the ear? Try do this in your stick. You can make the hair thinner and add different shades. This will add depth and your hair can still look thick if done right
