A Scarf Fig is a problem, a disease to the animation community.
Whenever you look for StickNodes animations, Base Figs and Scarf Figs are all you see. The problem is that they are drowning out a very important fact.
Good design makes good animation.
If you can make far more recognisable, unique and interesting designs, people generally watch your animation more, look at Project Landfall and The StickNodes Movie for example, two series that definitely prioritise design and payed off because of it.
Drop the basic figs, we’re collectively sick of them and want them gone already. They’re a dead trend from eons past and need to just go away already so people with real skill can finally be reccognised.

Since no one else will despite my seclusion I will not stand for this. There is a MASSIVE difference between good animation and unique looks. Your blurring the line. Good animation is what scarfs and bases focus on that’s not cancerous. However even with your intermediate animation skills base and scarf figures still work on their animation to perfection not praise detail. Unlike this community

I really don’t like repeating myself, but at this point the last time I said it was months ago, and the way Ralph organizes posts, it would take soooo long to dig it up, so here we go
As I’ve saide before, animation is a huge blanket term. There’s plenty of things that go into making a good animation, besides the animation.
A good animated show that doesn’t have the best animation but is still a great show is Bojack Horseman. Most adult animated comedies don’t have the best animation, but it’s the writing and the jokes that makes them great.
An example of a well animated show that’s bad is SAO. Now in the beginning, SAO wasn’t really that bad. Certainly wasn’t the best trapped in an MMO anime, but it was at least above average.
But midway in the series, you start to see it all crack down.
The choreography is bad, the music is average, the writing is bad, and most of the character designs are booorrrrinnng.
It doesn’t matter how good the animation is, when the show is fundamentally flawed, the animation isn’t gonna save it.
A good analogy for the whole blanket term thingy, is this.
In shooters, a lot of people think all there is to be good at them is to have good aim, and while yes, good aim is VERY important, but there’s more to it than that.
There’s awareness, map knowledge, teamwork, there might be other gimmicks to learn like Fortnite’s build mechanics.
You don’t know how many times my team got wiped because no one was looking behind the team when we were holding long doors.
A lot of people think all there is to Animation is the animation, and while it is VERY important, there’s more to it.
There’s sound design, character design, writing if you’re trying to make a story.
Now you don’t HAVE to be good at all these things at once, because in the professional field there are separate jobs for animators and character designers. But it is a wise idea to learn this stuff so you’ll have better chances and options later if you choose to pursue animation as a career. Stuff like character design, despite what I have said before, is student level.
It’s good to learn the rules before you break em as they say
That’s why in classic art schools, they usually tell you to focus on making realistic drawings, before developing your own style.
We need to combine good animation and good character design to make something truly unique.
A YouTube channel named Sugarpunch Studio makes great videos about character design and animation, you should give em a watch https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wTfjABD1mz0

Everyone here tries to be the serious animators but no one (apart from Dmlan and Ralph and sean) is even 20. Epitaph is bullying scarf users to detail and that is not ok. Animation yes is a blanket term but epitaph is saying good detail means inheritly good animation. Not true. Design means NOTHING if the animation. Characters movement across our screens is bad. Then it’s just a failed attempt with you or whoever animating it not understanding the bare bones of pure animation. Not design. Scarf and base users are not a cancer. Otherwise the dojo would be gone by now. And with the black jack example people are not looking at animation they are looking at the way the jokes are portrayed. It’s a minor loophole in things.

Character design isn’t just optional, it’s a core part of animation as a whole!
Look at any show from any generation and notice how they ALL have character designs. Hell before we even had animation, artists were doing character designs. Just look at old paintings of Greek gods. All they had for reference were words. And guess what, they designed their looks off of that.
Really this whole character design doesn’t matter thing is only existent in our small sector of the internet animation community. Just look at animators on Newgrounds, or YouTube. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=mRpiBvwKX6c
Also notice how out of all of the 12 animation principles, when almost all of them are focused on animation techniques, there’s one that is specifically about appeal, AKA character design. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=uDqjIdI4bF4
And as I said, you need to combine these elements to make something truly great.
If you don’t combine these traits, you end up with Elements, and the only thing you have going for you is the animation.

The Dojo’s YouTube channel only reached 1 Mil a year or 2 ago, which is great, but that’s about 100 people.
Compare that to how fast other solo animators like Psychicpebbles, Pikapetey, Egoraptor, Rachel Kim, and other animators who practiced not only animation but the way they designed their characters, and sound design, grew in the relatively same time.

We having this conversation AGAIN? Can you stop trying to push your “scarf figure bad” agenda on everything you come across? Nobody wants to see your ultimatum anytime they decide to post something. You just fear mongered this guy into changing his OC design. You could try to be more constructive with every person, but you always bring it up in this specific manner. Then you use yourself as an example which is hilarious. Because half the people who know you come from the ”Nude Roux,, end of the community. Anyway that’s my two cents you can put it towards the bill if you want.
Definitely an improvement over a scarf.

Epitaph is mainly wrong here for excluding base and scarf users. They animate and tell stories I’d argue better than him. Excluding elements
