This group was mainly for discussing and showcasing the quirky uses for the Smart-Stretch, but now it’s about rigging in general. All into one group for neat organisation.
Here’s a calculator, whole darn guide is too.

It’s been a year since last activity, I feel like this group finna pop off once 4.2.0 is fully public.
Anyways, been also considering making or… Well – rebranding an old discord server I had for Stick Nodes related shits. Anyone would be up for a rigging server?
-
Rebranding the group to be more general and not just Smart-Stretch.
Anyways, how much do you guys like hips-

Ingenious
And the worst enemy of the common SN animator-
Replying to:
when you think it’s ingenious, but realise it’s actually borderline psychotic when you see the doc of the base rig im trying to pull

never heard of them

You’re either a smart-stretch rigger

-
I want to learn but I also don’t
-
Replying to:
because I am so lazy I’ve found a process to simplify it. But it’s still rather repetitive and time consuming.
-
Replying to:
but essentially it works like two images overlaying eachother. One is sideways, other is front facing. They overlap in a way like this:

-
Replying to:
That… makes sense actually. Like, I’m trying to wrap my head around it since it’s on a 2d plane, but I see what you’re getting at. As for actually knowing how, that’s a different matter-

Once I’ve finished with this hell I’ll probably make a tutorial.
Also the new calculator helped me a lot with the prototypes.
You just add “s” or “e” in the start/end shit and it will account for control segment length, kinda hard to explain without a video but it’s worth trying it out.
That’s kinda how I also made sideways hair, example:
s-12 to e12
It’s kinda neat.

I don’t know what I’m looking at-
-
Replying to:
It’s an attempt to make a 3d hair model. This is basically the front middle section, which can be animated/tweened to move to side.

Practical tutorial: Telescopic effect (Part 2/2)

This is the alternative version of the telescopic effect using smart-stretch. It works exactly like the first one
(Part1:http://sticknodes.com/members/regoma/activity/1391238/) only the values change.
-Default state retracted:
Green, blue and orange segments lenght must be equal to the gray panels thickness.-Default state extended:
Orange lenght must be equal to the panels thickness.
Green and blue segments lenght must be twice the panels thickness.(All red segment are only here for exemple’s lisibility, and are not necessary to make it work.)

I still don’t understand any of this
Can someone explain this in the simplest of terms?-
We’re abusing smart stretch to allow for the movement of any number of nodes from any chosen point A to any chosen point B all at once by only moving a single control node.

it could be like a magazine with bendy cover and pages i’d say lol
-
Replying to:
how’d you even do this??
-
Replying to:
okay so it’s a bit of a wonky explanation. First, the right side.
Control is a segment that pulls a segment that goes from Right to middle. When Control reaches 0, the right page gets shorter and shorter, like how smart stretch usually does. Now for the left pages, they are attached to the right one as you could tell and are actually just “do not smart stretch” segments that appear behind all right pages. Now we just stack everything so if we saw the whole thing from the side we’d see:
RightA
RIghtB
RightC
LeftA
LeftB
LeftC-

of course of course
