We all love it when a Smash Bros. DLC comes out. You’ve seen your favorite characters like Steve, Ryu, Mewto, and many more take the stage to become your favorite contender. But what if your own Stick Nodes OC could fight alongside Mario, Sonic and Megaman? What if YOU could be part of the fun?
I'm Teo the Dan, and I'd like to welcome you to the Stick Nodes Smash DLC!
Here are the 3 steps to making your own pretend Smash DLC character.
1. Make an intro
Your Smash intro could be a picture, like most people do, or an animation if you so desire. You could do it yourself if you want, but if you don’t consider yourself great at that type of thing, then me or my one of my specially picked mods will gladly do it for you. Example:

2. Make a moveset
Same thing. Your moveset is made up of reusable, easy-to-use movieclips. Make an idle stance, then edit off it to make a variety of moves. Me and Voltage are our two best animators on the team. Scout is real good, too. You can always have us do it for you, but on occasion we may be busy, so be patient.

Use your moveset to make animations, share with other people through file sharing sites, and much more! Now get going my peeps!

Yo, it's Teo. just wanted to say:This is one of the most fun things I’ve done on this site.
I started this around 1 and a half years ago now, thinking people would pass it off as an ArcFi ripoff or a clout chase. I just wanted to make something special that I could have fun doing, since it was great making that first Smash Intro. It’s nice to see the people of SN feel similarly.
We now have 140 members.
140.I truly never thought we’d get here, and I realize that I still have so much left to offer this group. Thanks, guys. We’ve passed 100, now let’s go for 200.

Hey guys, I need some help
So im making the ArcFi moveset for my oc. I thought mine was pretty good so far but one of the devs and another user said the design and anims could use some work, they elaborated a little bit but they arent telling me what exactly to improve.One said the throwing knives were bad because, quote, “also I’m rly abt to get on your a– for making him f—ing flick the knife and make it spin rappidly moving forward like he put maximum power into that tiny a– flick bro”
Im a bit lost on that because i didn’t really think the knife went that fast, but maybe i could get a professional opinion from @infiniteguess @tastylemon16 or @teothedan someone?

it seems like he wants the movements to have more energy and exaggeration, more life and style to them (i think)
look up images of animation exaggeration for examples/protips
so for the knife flick, for example, he needs more energy in it:
reaches across his body to side pocket, kinda like hes grabbing it but also winding up for a hard flick/toss, then springs into a forceful throw and returns to idle position – this type of thing -
Boomerang:
Make it larger and when it begins to come back make it still move a bit in the direction it’s about to go in rather than stop altogether. If you wanted to add some realism as well you could make GLK move back / charge up the boomerang before throwing. When you throw something hard you get a lot of swing into it and so you sort of move back slightly and quickly thwip back to a movement where you’d be throwing said thing.
Knife:
It looks reasonably okay, like I just said, adding some slight build up rather than a simple throwing out motion might make it more realistic. Make it spin less and move faster along with making it move slightly up as the throw was a sort of underhand throw so it would steadily incline before declining as gravity pulls it back down.
I’m no great animator or expert with these things so that’s just my take on it.

It’s not the knife going fast, it’s his hand. That attack speed is crazy and mad spammable lowkey. And the boomerang is good, but hard to figure out what a hitbox like that would do.
Either way, the moves themselves aren’t too bad, but the animation could possibly be cleaned up a bit and eased out. Mostly what Lemon said. Ease in and out, and make the movement a little more believable with buildup, impact, release, and arc for the flying knife.
Arcfi is usually pretty strict with their moveset qualities, don’t sweat it too hard. You’ll get there.

i don’t play too much fighting games myself, but what you should focus on for the animations should be speed and exaggeration, as it’s necessary to keep the gameplay fun and fast-paced, as fighting games do tend to require faster movesets
think of it from a gameplay standpoint beforehand rather than an animation standpoint, you wouldn’t want to play the character who has clunky animations that last for too long, leaving you open to any attacks from an enemy with a faster moveset
playing a character with flashy and fast moves that can allow you to essentially create really cool combos through different techniques is what makes fighting games fun, at least for the few times ive played them
if the main concern here are the projectiles (which are moving awfully slow), i think it’s best to change the focus more towards improving gameplay rather than just being a generic sticknodes reskin of tekken with clunkier moves
it’s time for me to actually criticize the animation
exaggerate the boomerang throw, it looks weak and just looks like it gets suspended in the air rather than being an actual projectile one should avoid, make it faster and more dynamicknife throw should be quick and instant, something like a dagger or a bullet trail being thrown right after the throwing animation, something like how a ninja would throw daggers or something like that
don’t let it spin, it lacks any sort of energy and makes it look less of a threat than it should bejust look up references on youtube or try playing some fighting games yourself if you’ve never really experienced them before
