I’m by no means an expert on storytelling or anything lol
but I am a fan of “smart” plots and characters, etc
for example I love DBZ but it’s plotline is about as inspired as a bag of wet socks
so a lot of the points I heard are true, the best types of good guys vs bad guys (rivals) are where, to the viewer, both “sides” have an equally valid motivation
as in, not just “I want be a hero” vs “I want to destroy the world!”
oh my bad I didn’t realize this was a reply to your thing, I thought it was in asking about the video and what I thought
your idea works though, well, it’s better than the typical story
because they’re both kinda “bad” (eradicating life on earth is a big no-no)
so it’s an interesting dynamic
as to how it wraps up in the end…that’s something you should have planned and maybe foreshadow a little here and there through the story, that way it’s not just a deus-ex-machina out of absolutely nowhere
(assuming maybe the “bad guys” don’t win)
the main antagonist is automatically the rival to the main protagonist, that just how they work.
there are some exclusions like Lord Sauron who has no rival but he’s a f**king eye on a tower so it’s kinda hard to really consider it an entity. then again, he could be Isildor’s (probably spelt wrong) arch-nemesis.
that’s another thing. Arch-Nemesis’ and Rivals are different. Arch-Nemesis’ are pure villain. no redeeming qualities, born to be bad. Rivals are anti-heroes, there’s still a way to pull them back.
both your characters are villains but with both of them being destruction obsessed megalomaniacs, there’s much more reason to make them brothers in crime, a double main antagonist. kinda like Bullet and Roux; both villains but with aims just close enough that they sided with one another (though Bullet never planned to side with Roux)
yeah. if there’s a rival, make it one of the side villains. once again, much like Bullet or Shirokaze (who gets fleshed out more in the Complete Edition)
Well then make Flash grow stronger over the course of the series. Not only ‘obligatory power level’ powerful but also as a character, growing more personality and allowing the view to even sympathise for him.
All the beatings that can be beaten
White t-shirt dude=Epitaph Black T-Shirt dude= Joker
yeah…logic…the rival hates the hero cuz the hero is strong (always) and the hero ALWAYS wins
Weird! I was just gonna recommend this channel!
All throughout it I was just thinking: “Soooo Sasuke and Naruto in a nutshell”

remember that a rival is a side character, not the main antagonist
EG: Explosive Bullet in SNM
