Good to know I’m not the only one. On the scarf figure meme, It’s pretty much a joke that has returned in a new coat of paint numerous times and that’s how it hasn’t gotten old. That and the fact that people continue to make blatant Heckray clones is the reason the joke still exists. It’s a way of making fun out of something that kinda sucks just like how people constantly joke about SN PC years after the joke was originally made. Same with the Sean jokes. Except that’s just poking fun at something else. Can’t quite put my finger on right now. But honestly gotta lol at that. Epitaph was certainly a nutcase back then. Atleast he’s made the attempt to change. But Epitaphs idea that bases are garbage from back then is his opinion alone. Anybody who attacks bases today are hypocrites, but I don’t see many of those people. Not as many people as the amount of people that hate me soley on the fact that I use tween and don’t make anime animations. But then again, Cosmy carries his own bag of shit as well. Both Epitaph and Cosmy have done very questionable things.

For one, the whole anti scarf thing and how they are all just equally bad is an obvious joke. Base users are not associated with the whole scarf thing. Nobody and I mean nobody has an issue with base users. Cause that’s just a really simple style. Scarf figures are a regurgitated design that ultimately leads to failure when there is potential. Theres loads of people who do simple animation, nowhere have I or anyone else decided that simple is unacceptable. Bland and simple are two different things and considering I’ve studied design, I know this stuff well. There are loads of elements that allow for something simple to be unique. Perfect example is Toxic911. His OCs design is simple but recognizable. When you look at scarf figures, they are just following a trend which leads them to failure. And I treat em probably more equally than most people that followed Epitaph did. They are completely equal, my standard for them is the same as my standard for people who do the simple stickfigure fullbody OCs. The thing you are expecting is that my standard changes for them. Except no, they are not immune to any form of critisism.
But overall, I agree on the comparison of rig based animation to hand drawn animation. It’s annoying to see people take adobe flash, a AAA software that uses a frame by frame drawn animations and compare it to a indie sorta software that uses vector based graphics with the ability to auto generate frames. Completely with you on that those two cannot be compared due to their different style.
Always when I judge a figure though, I take into consideration the style. I don’t sit there and scream at them to use the PL base or Nickys base. So I have no idea where the whole thing that scarf figures aren’t treated equally comes from. Mistreatment against bases and scarfs from what I’ve seen hasn’t exactly existed from my experience, it’s just really misinterpreted and this is where we get that idea that scarf users can’t handle critisism. Can’t blame this exactly on the community itself. You blame it on those individual peopl that don’t know how to control themselves when they see something that they don’t like. Promoting detailed animation, that isn’t a problem. If theres enforcing, then yeah, but theres not any enforcing until someone decides to make a series with only good fighting scenes, no background, just a fight scene yet it’s supposed to be a series. The whole detail nazi thing though is something I’m not quite sure where you are getting at. There’s people throw lot’s of detail into their stuff cause it’s their style, and then there’s people that prefer to keep it simple. One isn’t “better” than the other despite more effort being in the one style. And the idea that this subcommunity is hated is something I only have seen from people that can’t handle critisism and like thinking that they can do whatever they want. Perfect example is Zeph. -

Don’t get me wrong, some of them can animate very well, but that’s a small minority. Regardless, animation skill means nothing if you have next to no creativity. I have yet to see any actually good scarf submissions though, aside from some that have some pretty good posing. But 90 percent of them are not that different from each other, this whole thing is based on quality after all, not a persons ability to animate. Only exception is popular and well known people like Son Goku and Heckray.
