As I recommended Explosive Bullet, Railguns would be a nice addition.It would be an old piece of technolgy, used by pirates as it was cheap to manufacture compared to the other weapons at the time.

We already have railguns, they’re just not made to be hand-held yet.
Since your series is a soft-scifi series in the not-so-distant future, railguns would fit right in!

Have I mentioned the Hamilton soundtrack is freaking amazing?
I know most of you guys don’t like rap, but not only is there more than just rap, the rapping actually tells a coherent story that isn’t just “I f$@ked your mom look at how rich I am I’m so hard *proceeds to say n!gga unnecessarily a hundred times*”
My favorite song is “Blow us all away” as it’s one of the more upbeat songs in the soundtracks, besides “The Schuyler Sisters” and “What did I miss?” Despite the song’s sad ending

Railguns are neato but are mostly used as heavy artillery rather than handhelds. They’re mostly LAVR and AOW in origin.
