  • Replying to comment by: PermaYou know why most Shonen Anime have the escalation problem?

A power ceiling is basically a level cap, to make sure that the powerful people feel powerful, and those below them don’t seem completely useless. One of the Shonen Anime they establish a power ceiling and do it well is My Hero Academia, which once again, if you can, GO WATCH IT.

  • You know why most Shonen Anime have the escalation problem? Because most of them don’t establish a power ceiling. Now unlike most cartoons in America and Europe, Japanese cartoons don’t have many ads to push, meaning that instead of only lasting for 11-15 minutes, they can go for a whole 22-30 minutes. Because of the lesser ads the shows mostly rely on stuff like toys, video games, manga, movies etc etc. Now to get people to buy your stuff, you gotta get them hooked, and you gotta make em’ stay hooked and because of this, Shonen Anime escalate, they escalate sooo much that nothing matters anymore. Imagine if an RPG game didn’t have a level cap, as you can tell it’d be pure chaos because those lower than the level 10203249402903092 gods are now useless. That’s why power levels in shonen anime are soo inconsistent, because they keep going higher, and higher, and higher, and they just don’t know when to stop!

    • I appreciate this random ass post, because it’s true

I like good writing and clever solutions, not “let me just believe in myself and I’ll win” crap

Hunter X Hunter is actually a pretty smart shonen-type anime where the main characters don’t ass-pull a win when they shouldn’t, and it’s very good because of that

If the knight is using armor that was made to block great swords, it’s safe to say he isn’t that fast, and that’s 1 thing you’re forgetting: Speed. Assuming the operative has his vest off (Which he definitely would) and seeing the requirements to get in the military not even mentioning the requirements to get in a Special Operation, the militant would run circles around the knight. The knight just doesn’t have the speed nor the knowledge to hit the militant. Maybe the karambit couldn’t pierce the armor, but he ain’t getting hit that’s for sure.

ONCE AGAIN, it relies too heavily on the user! Sure if they were floating-objects than yes the rapier would win, but when you’re talking about armor and shields, than I have the right to bring up stuff like Special Operatives, Martial Arts training, you know; ????? ???? ??????? ???’? ????

This subject has gotten wildly off topic. Listen Listen Listen. IF we were to make our wielders based off who most often uses said weapon (AKA, Proffessional Fencers & Special Military Operatives) than yes, karambit wins. Because being in the military, and being good enough to be special ops is an entirely different and more knowledgable skill set than being a fencer. Yes, a trained Militant would be able to close the gap between a fencer and grab his arm, because if there’s one thing the rapier isn’t very good at, it’s close range (Because of it sucking at slashing and is more of a poke and stab weapon) so YES once again the Karambit would win!

And it bears repeating, a fight between weapons (Especially melee weapons) LARGELY depends on the wielder! Whilst sure, a rapier is objectively better than a Karambit in a fight, if the Karambit user is more talented, skilled, etc than he’s gonna win!

ONCE AGAIN, Of course you’re gonna lose with a knife in a sword fight. That’s like bringing a sword to a gunfight.

But no really, the difference between what Refecc was doing and what you were doing, is that you were very inconsistent on what is what. You go from knives to swords to shields which really defeats the purpose. In a fight of course a sword is gonna beat a knife same goes for almost every knife, and of course a shield is gonna block a knife. But that’s not the point. The point is to see where it stands between other knives of which you argued very little of.

I mean, We’re talking about a Military specialist using a karambit and some kind of knight using bayonets/traditional knives. And both have expenantially different skill sets! I mean, if it was a military operative, he’d exploit the many, MANY weaknesses of old armor, and assuming he is pretty light on armor, he’d run circles around the knight. We need to establish 1 skill set between the 2, 1 type of armour between the 2, and 1 Type of weapon between the two so you stop pulling different weapons out your arse.

But Epitaph….. If the guy is using a Karambit, the guy probably has a gun. Also If the guy is using a Karambit you’d probably NOT be dressed in medievil armor. We can’t make a battle between weapons when the weapons effectiveness relies on armor! To concoct a “Which Weapon would win” we need to establish the duelers so we get a solid idea of what the fight would be like, instead of shields and armor and an overall inconsistent counters.
