You see, it isn’t just about detail, it’s about character design
A lot of people in the SN community hate them because a lot of base/scarf figures are poorly designed.
What is good character design you ask? Well a good character design should tell you what the character’s about at a glance, by using body shape, clothing, poses, etc. Depending on the character’s screen time, and use, some designs need to be more exaggerated or subtle.
The problem with most base figures is that the designs say almost nothing. But that’s not to say a simple figure can’t say a lot.
It really depends on your style and what suits the character best when it comes to detail and simplicity. You should still have a focus on good character design no matter what style, as appeal and character design is an integral part of character animation.
