Gangs Of New York

Gangs of New York is a 2002 American epic historical drama film directed by Martin Scorsese and written by Jay Cocks, Steven Zaillian, and Kenneth Lonergan, based on Herbert Asbury’s 1927 book The Gangs of New York. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Daniel Day-Lewis, and Cameron Diaz, along with Jim Broadbent, John C. Reilly, Henry Thomas, Stephen Graham, Eddie Marsan, Brendan Gleeson, and Liam Neeson in supporting roles. The film also marks the start of a fruitful collaboration between DiCaprio and Scorsese.

The film is set in 1863, when a long-running Catholic–Protestant feud erupts into violence, just as an As a wave of immigrants arrive in New York, where a young Irish immigrant, Amsterdam Vallon, seeks revenge against the rival gang leader who killed his father while an Irish immigrant group is protesting the threat of conscription during the Civil War.

And, look… im gonna be real here, i’ve never seen this movie whole, however i gotta say, the entire scenes situated during the New York draft riots are wonderfully horrific, Scorsese really knew how to capture the horror of an angry mob.

Central America joins Mexico!
The Mexican emperor Agustín de Iturbide invites the Central American Federation, made up of Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Costa Rica, to join the empire he heads. To force a positive response, he sends an army to occupy the region. Groups opposed to the annexation demonstrate in several Central American cities, but their power is limited and the Mexican troops frighten many leaders. The Central American Congress approves the annexation by majority and Central America remains united to Mexico until August 1823, when a liberal revolution overthrows Iturbide and puts an end to his imperial dream.
