CALLERS – TL6
Callers are variants of Redmass similar to Beartraps in the sense that they both burrow into the ground. Although the Caller can’t do any (physical) damage to humans, it is classified as TL6 due to its nature of killing its “prey.” Unlike most other redmass, Callers dont need to digest prey, but rather gain their energy through photosynthesis, so the Callers main purpose is to lure in prey for other Redmass to eat/mutate. Callers stick large pipe-like structures out of the ground to release spores that attracts prey due to specific chemicals. The prey then is lured to the “webs” of the Caller, which have multiple “spikes” on the webs that have thousands of microscopic barbs on them. When the prey touches the “webs,” the Caller sends out a stress hormone to other Redmass to lure them in to kill the prey. When humans are attracted to it’s spores, they usually seem as if they’re going insane. The prey stays in the “attracted” state for about 3 hours, and once its done, usually have no memory of what just happened.
This animation shows how the Caller releases spores that attracts prey.
