You can make a copy of your figure, then tint it to the color you want the glow to be then use blur, glow and intensity to make it look cool
Galaxies just seem like blur and glow spam-

I recommend making the rough shape of the hair using some segments then fill them up (especially if its a hard shape) or if you can just go straight to using large segments and shape that too save alot more nodes

Usually boils down to experience, learning techniques that decrease node counts while still having the same effect over time
delete nodes and if they dont fucc up the entire stickfigure then you dont have to keep them
