Scarves in OCs are lazy design choices that destroys the appeal of the character, it’s always bland, overused and overall it doesn’t look good.

I could care less about this whole scarf figure controversy. Besides, a lot of the animations featuring them are very neat.

It still doesn’t have any visual appeal from just a base figure. Adding a scarf if anything will make it worse. There’s countless OCs that have scarfs so it doesn’t set you out there. Take my OC as an example. I stuck to a darker color pallete than a more bright and vibrant one. This is one thing that makes me stick out from other OCs. I have one bright color as well, which is a gold. When people see these colors on a character, they think of mine. Another thing is detail and overall concept. Detail is a big thing on my OC, but the concept of a heavily armed and extremely lethal super soldier remains even in the low detail version. You can go to something like Epitaphs OC or mine…. Or you can even go as bare bones as Toxic with the concept of a classy guy with a monacle and hat. A scarf doesn’t speak much to you at all. Armor plates and complex designs speaks military while a simple black under a bright color speaks a supernatural so of thing. You don’t have to do anything super complex, just do anything but a scarf. Do something unique, don’t be afraid to add detail, take your time and don’t rush it. Otherwise, people wont recognise you.
