I’m kinda thinking of areas from halo with the flood were they have the pods and stuff but the node spawns have purple kinda veins. And a dark grey/ orange for a background.

The hive could be like a few holes in a giant grotesque wasp nest dripping red and black gunk. Making any living organism slowly and painfully die.

Well the hive is built within a volcano so it could be suspended up in the air by huge strands of Node Spawn webs
