Dances With Wolves

Dances With Wolves is a 1990 American epic Western film starring, directed, and produced by Kevin Costner in his feature directorial debut. It is a film adaptation of the 1988 novel Dances With Wolves, by Michael Blake, that tells the story of Union Lt. John Dunbar, who after being dubbed a hero after he accidentally leads Union troops to a victory during the Civil War, requests a position on the western frontier, but finds it deserted. He soon finds out he is not alone, but meets a wolf he dubs “Two-socks” and a curious Sioux tribe. Dunbar quickly makes friends with the tribe, and discovers a white woman who was raised by the Sioux tribe. He gradually earns the respect of these native people, and they learn from, and befriend each other.

Now, what i love about this film, is that it doesnt portray the natives as the dumb, bloodthirsty savages they were in previous western movies, but rather as magnificent and smart people that are in a constant uphill battle against the U.S Goverment (which is sadly true, even till today.)

The Red Baron Falls!
Manfred Albrecht Freiherr von Richthofen, known in English as Baron von Richthofen or the Red Baron, was a fighter pilot with the German Air Force during World War I. He is considered the ace-of-aces of the war, being officially credited with 80 air combat victories.
Originally a cavalryman, Richthofen transferred to the Air Service in 1915, becoming one of the first members of fighter squadron Jagdstaffel 2 in 1916. He quickly distinguished himself as a fighter pilot, and during 1917 became the leader of Jasta 11. Later he led the larger fighter wing Jagdgeschwader I, better known as “The Flying Circus” or “Richthofen’s Circus” because of the bright colours of its aircraft, and perhaps also because of the way the unit was transferred from one area of Entente air activity to another – moving like a travelling circus, and frequently setting up in tents on improvised airfields. By 1918, Richthofen was regarded as a national hero in Germany, and respected by his enemies.
Richthofen was shot down and killed over France near Vaux-sur-Somme on 21 April 1918. Richthofen never married and had no known children. There has been considerable discussion and debate regarding aspects of his career, especially the circumstances of his death. Together they will have to join forces to survive the punishing landscape and the hostile Comanche tribes they encounter along the way.

This movie is one of my favorite alternative western ever made, depicting PTSD, Psycosis, and the struggles of Native Americans where those conserns werent even considered yet, great battles & scenes too.

But the arrival of Allison French (Renée Zellweger), an attractive widow, threatens to destroy Virgil and Everett\’s long-standing friendship.

Look, i Love love LOVE this movie, although the main premise is extremely simple, it\’s probably the most realistic out there.

the set design, the costumes, the firearms, the fact that the characters ACTUALLY AIM, or even something as simple as the fact that the glass isnt 100% see-through speaks VOLUMES of just how far the team went in order to portray the old west acoordingly.

On April 14th, 1865, Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States, was shot in the back of the head by John Wilkes Booth while attending the play Our American Cousin at Ford\’s Theatre in Washington, D.C, Although shot in the head as he watched the play in April 14th, Lincoln died of his wounds the following day at 7:22 am in the Petersen House opposite the theater. He was the first U.S. president to be assassinated, and his death greatly affected the reconstruction of the USA tremendously.

THE CIVIL WAR ENDS! (technically.)
The Battle of Appomattox Court House, fought in Appomattox County, Virginia, on the morning of April 9, 1865, was one of the last, and ultimately one of the most consequential, battles of the American Civil War, it was the final engagement of Confederate General in Chief Robert E. Lee and his Army of Northern Virginia before they surrendered to the Union Army of the Potomac under the Commanding General of the United States Army, Ulysses S. Grant.
Lee, having abandoned the Confederate capital of Richmond, Virginia, after the nine-and-a-half-month Siege of Petersburg and Richmond, retreated west, hoping to join his army with Confederate forces, the Army of Tennessee in North Carolina. Union infantry and cavalry forces under General Philip Sheridan pursued and cut off the Confederates’ retreat at the central Virginia village of Appomattox Court House. Lee launched a last-ditch attack to break through the Union forces to his front, assuming the Union force consisted entirely of lightly armed cavalry. When he realized that the cavalry was now backed up by two corps of federal infantry, he had no choice but to surrender with his further avenue of retreat and escape now cut off.
The signing of the surrender documents occurred in the parlor of the house owned by Wilmer McLean on the afternoon of April 9. On April 12, a formal ceremony of parade and the stacking of arms led by Confederate Major General John B. Gordon to Union Brigadier General Joshua Chamberlain marked the disbandment of the Army of Northern Virginia with the parole of its nearly 28,000 remaining officers and men, free to return home without their major weapons but enabling men to take their horses and officers to retain their sidearms (swords and pistols), and effectively ending the war in Virginia.
