Ye. It would actually. Like imagine 8-bit game. 8 bit sprites have limited colour palette and limited sizes. Keep colours similar to keep that retro look.

It would help to see a screenshot of what red looks like, but I do think yellow would look more….natural? There isn’t really anything natural about spikes though so idk

Also the spikes like quite decent but with the lasers being red as well, I feel like its kind of plain. Maybe spice things up a bit, go for a golden yellow for the spikes bottom bit and the spike itself silver.
