While the axe would be considered at first glance, upon closer inspection you can find a sword can easily surpass it. with an axe, your maneuvers are limited thanks to the weight of the axehead, not evenly distributing weight and instead focusing it all on one point. a sword on the other hand has evenly distributed weight and is overall lighter, this gives you more stopping power, quicker attacks and a lot more choices of action.
another point is blocking and parrying. if you wanna stop a blade with an axe, it either gonna hit the axehead, knocking the axe way out of where it should be or it’s going to hit the shaft, damaging it.
whereas, a sword can block/parry just about anywhere, even the hilt if it has a swept hilt.
this is why i encourage the use of the Bhuj so much, it’s more capable of blocking and parrying thanks to it’s metal shaft and it’s crossguard, hence why it’s technically a sword and not an axe.
