today I accidentally stumbled into SN TikTok.
For the sake of not accidentally starting a witch hunt (since I don’t know the general stance on AI voice “acting” this community takes) I’ll not name names.

But the animation I saw was very well made. However, the animator’s use of AI Voices made me very sad :[

    • I think the ethical question of AI “voice acting” is interesting because on one hand it is generally pretty lazy to just plug dialogue into a machine and also has the disadvantage of sounding as expressive as a 2×4 plank of wood. On the other hand AI voices are some of the only ways some people without budget or voice acting connections make their animations. Another thing, if its just a small tiktok then its not doing much harm i think.

My stance is firmly against AI personally but I’m curious what other people think.

for the most part, the voices used by this guy sounded pretty natural. that’s what scares me the most. I understand the budget aspect of the argument 100% but to replicate somebody’s voice feels like the first step of taking away somebody’s identity and livelihood. It just doesn’t sit right with me

Eh, it’s like dominoes. It starts with a small tiktok, get incorporated into larger projects, eventually puts real voice actors out of a job. AI in any art form is a big no for me, no matter how it’s used or how much it’s used – though I understand it can be a way for smaller creators to save budget and express THEIR art form.

Yeah, its a early tool and by no means a replacement for human talent.

        that’s not necessarily true.

It’s partly for the purposes of having a ideal character voice be realized, and partly for budgetary constraints. Individual people simply do not have the budget to hire say, Keith David, to voice their character.

I’m not saying that makes it right.

    • was it possibly mine?? spider-man animation? i made it like a year back but haven’t used AI since, i didn’t even make the original audio tbh i just thought it’d make for a funny lil anim

    • To be honest I see nothing wrong with using AI voices for small stuff like that

If companies use it for bigger stuff like video games or movies to avoid paying voice actors I can see why it would cause some trouble but a single Sticknodes animator isn’t really doing any harm using it
