Kusarigama (Chain-Sickle)
This teqchnique was invented for those who are not allowed to carry swords, namely farmers, craftsmen and merchants, and even Ninjas and was carried on secretly by them.
Samurai hated opponents with this weapon, because in a real fight, you can’t really see where the ball is for its speed, and the ball can crack your skull. Everyone in Japan knows the existence of this weapon, but only very few practice this.

Samurai were pretty corrupt most of the time, sometimes taking advantage over the citizens in their land, so farmers had to get some way to defend themselves

How did you get the Japanese there? I can’t find a Japanese font in SN
Use the international text, then you can write Hiragana and Katakana and any kanji that’s available on your device (intead of the Japanese text it was supposed to be the kanji 鎖鎌 but the seccond kanji or hanzi appears as a null square
