I’m also interested by what you could pull off with a lack of antagonist. Hey, if you wanna be really creative; using camera angles and certain atmosphere, you could play out the radiation as if it were a villain as it slowly seeps into a room. We all know it isn’t sentient but when a room begins to fill with radioactive isotopes, it can really highten tension.

No, not really, for my exact same reasoning. It just gets in the way. Just use more universal terms. If anything, religion is worse cause it either scares them by saying they’ll have eternal punishment or that they’ll go to a nice happy place.
