• It's happening!!

Hi! Welcome back to another Bootlegged update!! I have some exciting news to share with you today, so let me start by announcing the most important:

The next episode of Bootlegged has started being animated!

I’ve been working on the script, the backgrounds, and characters for a while now, but now I’m finally using the stuff to actually animate it. The first 20 seconds are already done, and I have no idea how long it’s gonna be so we’ll just see how that goes siagiasiwn; The script is 17 pages long and almost 5,000 words, so it’s most likely gonna be longer than the previous, but hey, with double-framing and easier methods to workaround animating everything, the process’ll be a lot easier without the quality dropping (hopefully).
I’m really excited to animate this one tho, I think it’ll be a lot of fun to bring life to some new characters, not to spoil or anything but yeah this episode focuses on a bit of worldbuilding and introducing some new characters to make the setting feel more “lived-in” if you know what I mean, but It’s still primarily about IG and Peri’s shenanigans, so if you liked the previous episode, you’ll most likely enjoy this one.

Anyways, can’t say too much but I can’t wait for you guys to see it, and as a gift for reading all of this, here’s a small little snippet of the aforementioned exported 20 seconds. That’s all for now though, see you later!

  • AOCM: 2023 + 2024 Plan

Didn’t have the time to make an actual thing for this, originally I had the idea of a reality show spoof where all my OCs non-canonically meet each other, and have like those secret booths where they talk into the camera and all that, but I felt like that would take too long so I just made a little collage image of all my characters that I made/revamped this year.

    [PLANS]
Now, for the two people who are wondering what the deal with the 3/4 new dudes that popped out of nowhere that are all wearing some sort of uniform, basically they’re for the next episode of bootlegged, and I’m too lazy rn to make alt outfits, not gonna spoil too much besides that though. My objective for bootlegged this year is gonna be much greater, and I’ve been planning for quite a while now. My goal is to release 2, maybe 3 new episodes this year, idk, we’ll see. The last episode of Bootlegged did amazingly well (from my perspective at least) and I am very thankful to everyone who watched it, it was a genuinely great experience to put out something I’m proud of and get a ton of positive feedback from. I loved reading the comments I got from it, so thank you once again for the support, as none of this would’ve been possible without it.

However, I also might try out shorter form videos (like my most recent upload) where they’re like one offs that I put a little too much work into lol. Also, side-stories, maybe???
BUT, my focus is mainly bootlegged, and bringing my characters to life, so I promise I won’t get sidetracked and procrastinate all over again aieveisnwozj.

    [WHAT ABOUT STICKFIGURES??]

I still have to finish the Spy X Family Pack that I started (which I’m actually really proud of rn) but after that, uhhhh

Look, I love making figures, that’s one of the main reasons I use the app and joined the site, to make and show them off. It’s like drawing art, but instead of a still image, it’s a figure you can move and pose however, woah!!!

Though, I don’t really know what I’ll make, I usually just do it for fun or after a dose of motivation, which both feelings come at random. So if you ever ask me to make a certain character, it might take a while before I actually go “Hey, that character that they suggested sounds fun to make right now, I should try making it now that I feel like it.”

I’m also done with OC remakes, I got bored of asking people for their OCs, cuz then I get like halfway done with one and get bored. So here’s what I’ll do, if I like you enough and you character has a design I like or want to try remaking, I’ll ask you or do it as a surprise, just like any other character. I also won’t upload OC packs and all that anymore because why would you download a character I remade for a specific person?

Anyway, this post is getting long and you’ve probably already stopped reading, but if you haven’t then uhhhh hiii hoped you enjoyed what I made this year, see you in 2024!!

  • The Revamped Xaviers

Hi again!!! What do we have for this OC update? Two Revamps?? Woahhhh-

    [Figure-making process talk]
Yeah I haven’t done anything with these two in a bit, but I got around to keep them up to my current style. I kept Allison’s (Aka Mrs Xavier) design relatively similar to the last, just tweaked the clothing and fixed what I didn’t like with the previous. Lane however, is a completely different story. I had no idea what I was doing with his design, his last 3 were all drastically different, so i decided to tone it down and gave him some normal clothing ig.

    [Lore!!!!!!!!]
Allison is Lane’s mother, and Lane is Allison’s only son. Lane’s father is overseas working on some innovative technology, but he stays in touch with them through phone calls and what-not. Lane was inspired by his father, and took an interest in engineering (he’s still learning). Allison works as a real estate agent, and takes care of Lane by herself while her husband is gone, but still gets a good amount money from both him and her job. That’s all I have for now though sjwjsuuewnqk

I didn’t feel like making another figure so here’s this artist’s depiction of the, the the uhh the um the uhhhh

  • John & Carrie V2

Hii!!! Its been 3 months since I’ve done an OC update since I was so busy working on Bootlegged, anyways, I revamped two of the officers that patrol the small town the story takes place. Last time I said the name was pending, but now I’ve come up with the name Calborough, if I find a better one I’ll change it, but I kinda like Calborough so, yeah uhhh, lore time!! (Oh yeah and the figures-)

Carrie doesn’t speak, but John learned to understand her without actual speech. He’s not sure why she doesn’t speak or she even became a police officer without saying anything, but he doesn’t bother with it since Carrie never looks comfortable when he asks. They’ve been partners for a while, and have grown to be good friends through their work. They sometimes hangout off-duty, but they’re mostly together on the job.

    [Some fun facts and stuff]
I was originally gonna make them the only officers in Calborough (the name’s growing on me), but that wouldn’t really make sense, so let’s just say they’re the more important ones, since they’re involved in the actual story. I might make some more to be used as backup or something jwiehheqoz

John is actually Allison’s older brother, which means he is also Lane’s uncle.

My character idea document had Carrie and John originally listed as “Mute Cop” and “Mullet Cop” and I thought that was kinda funny for some reason.

I forgot what I originally said for Carrie’s last name, but I do remember John’s is Taylor. (I’m adding it here just so I don’t forget his too lol)

Anyways, that’s all for now, have another image for reading all this, OK byee!!

  • Slightly Important Poll

I didn\’t see anyone complain so maybe it\’s not that big of a deal, but did anyone find the keyboard typing-esque dialouge from the
    newest video
a bit too loud or distracting?

After rewatching it on different devices, I could work on mixing the audio better, but I just wanna know if the dialouge audio isn\’t to obnoxious.

Is the dialouge audio in need of adjustment?

    • It’s not necessarily loud per say, but rather just quite noticeable, maybe a little too much but any text sound effect in games or anything always does end up sounding quite loud and so it’s just the way it is.

I get what you mean but you’re better off maybe choosing some slight alterations in the sound of the typing for each character so maybe females have a higher pitch one, can’t remember if you tried something like this or not but variation is probably key.

      • Replying to: Tastylemon16It’s not necessarily loud per say, but rather just quite not

Yeah I did do that, I think I’m just gonna lower the volume tho, so it’s not as “noticeable” but still there to mimic speech.

        2023-10-16 16:24:26 UTC 5
    • Lowering the volume may help, but also maybe a slightly less harsher sound in general. I definitely noticed it right away, you kinda get used to it

  • Mildly Important Update

So uhh, HIII! time for me to rant about something for a few paragraphs; a little late to be posting but whatever-

First off, the new Bootlegged episode is nearing completion, and I have now learned to make a script before doing anything because just drawing out stuff and making a “storyboard” (hideous stickfigure sketches of scenes) isn’t gonna work well anymore wisguzhwbsj.

I will be MUCH more productive with the next episode, aiming to make a bit longer since this one looks like its gonna be around 7 or so minutes long. Of course, after I finish, I’m gonna take a break from animating and sticknodes all together cause man these past three months have been a bit stressful, though not anything that I can’t handle, as I’ve recently learned how to manage my time. I don’t know when it’ll come out, but I REALLY want to get it out in the first 10 days of October, as my birthday is coming up and I kinda don’t want to do anything during that time lol. My only problem is all the little details that probably nobody cares about in the project set me back, but since I just wanna finish at this point, I’m worrying about just making it.. not underwhelming-
Because a 7 minute (or so) animation that took 3 months to make kinda sounds like I didn’t do anything a lot of those days, especially me learning how to animate with easier methods to avoid having to spend so much time on scenes that aren’t that important, but are still as good quality as the rest of the video.

ANYWAYS, I think I’ve said enough, I’m happy with the work I’ve done so far, and just want to experiment more with my animating abilities, and also brining life to my characters. All I’m hoping is that it turns out well, and is at least enjoyable to watch, even then, I’ll still be glad to just finish it, since I’m constantly improving, so not everything will be the same so, yeah.

OK UHHHHH, I’ve been so impatient, and want to show you everything I’ve done so far but then that would ruin the whole thing so, here’s a little zoomed-in snippet of the fourth export for reading the whole way through; Thank you all for your support, I wouldn’t have aimed to finish it without it. See you soon!

Now i dont animate fight scenes as much but i think it’ll help if you have the camera follow one of the limbs of the fighters, mainly their head or their body.

Would explain more but im terrible at explaining, I’ll just hope you understand with the sentence i said above.

      • Replying to: SillyWizard01semi unrelated but, question do you. have tips for using c

I mean, there are lots of methods and uses when working with the camera, idk what you’re asking for exactly, but here are a few I use.

Transitions: A cool little trick I use to make camera cuts look less sudden, is make the camera scroll in one direction, have it cut off midway, then ease it out after the scene changes, so it looks like a smooth transition.

Tracking: As seen above, you can emphasize movement by moving the camera along with the character, or moving the camera to where the character is looking, mainly for easy-viewing or to put emphasis on a characters actions.

Auto-Camera: There’s a feature that allows you to make the camera scroll without manually easing it yourself, this can be used to make the camera follow along when a character moves from one point to another. For example, if you were to animate a character running across a plane, but instead of running out of frame, you can animate them running to their destination, and then add the auto camera, letting it automatically ease the camera in and out.

These are some of the more useful methods I use, but of course there are many more things you can do, like parallax, field of depth, and all that other stuff, but I suggest looking up tutorials for that kind of stuff iehdisisje

  • Andie V4
For some reason the head took me THREE HOURS to make, the ponytail just wouldn’t look right no matter how many times I redid it, finally got a result I’m satisfied with, anyways, the figure (which is just a revamp of V3 because I like the design):

Andie is not a random OC (finally, something different), but instead an intended side character, she used to work at a food stand but after getting tired of being outside all day and not making enough money, she got a new job at a local restaurant called Yuno’s, where she works as a waiter/food runner.

Andie was the first encounter IG had with another person after fleeing from a shoe shop. She’s pretty much kind to everyone, but IG still considers Andie as a friend because she was nice to him on one occasion, and although Andie is confused about IG and what he actually is, she chooses not question it.

(no second image because I didn’t have any ideas sjwbdisnenwkq)

  • Clover V2
The old figure SUCKS; the hair, the clothes, pretty much everything, but I liked the idea, so I pretty much redid everything. I might just use this method, like, make a figure no matter how bad it looks, and just evolve it into something better. Anyways, here’s the new version:

Clover was another random OC, now turned into an actual one, wow how cool it’s not like that’s what I’ve said for the past 4 or so OCs.

Clover is a farmer that lives on the outskirts of town. They enjoy nature and doing outdoor activities, but most of the time they spend their time harvesting and gardening, they also carry a shovel all the time because they say it’s “accessible”.

That’s all I have written in my documents for now, but there’s really nothing else to mention that’s actually important, like I find it funny when people do that thing where it’s like “My OC: Likes: Cereal, Money, The color red” or something like that. Anyways, look at this art thing that took me like 20 minutes to make:

  • Nio V5

Wanted to update the figure because I realized I just plagarized an AI generation which technically makes it not original, also it just didn’t look right and it was a bit outdated.

Nio was a character inspired by some wireless headphones I had, don’t use them anymore tho-, I thought the brand was called Zihnio but the C looked like an O (it was actually Zihnic) but I just kept the name because I didn’t feeling like calling her Nic jaiwjqsp. I didn’t really have a story for her until later on, all I have in my documents is that she loves music, she’s a friend of Hade, and she wants to be a DJ, basically shes just another random OC turned into an actual character for fun (speaking of which I need to update the other dudes, Lane hasn’t been touched in months-).

I’m satisfied with the result (for now), the hardest part was fixing the hair and maybe the shoes, but I think I got it right. That’s pretty much it tho so uhhhh here have this thing:

    23
  • Lin V2

Another random OC now turned into an actual one. I basically stole the idea of her being a librarian from a comment KidGamer made wjwinqkps

Anyways, her original hair looked like absolute garbage why did no one tell me; it was just a bunch of triangles sticking out. Whatever, I fixed it and gave her a better hairdo. That’s basically it though, aside from some small additions, the design pretty much stayed the same, just more vibrant and pleasing to look at, which is what I’ve been doing with all of the past revamps really.

ALSO, bit of a side tangent but I could’ve finished earlier, but I kept trying to constantly click “show static nodes”, only to realize the button isn’t there anymore which is kinda annoying idk who thought that was a good idea, its way slower and tedious (@ralph please add the button back I didnt know how important it was). ALSO ALSO, scaling a figure up takes so long since it’s goes up by 1 now instead of 10, it’s so slow, and when I try to hold it longer it accelerates so quickly that I have to now hold down and wait for it to slowly scale down again ajwbwkoq, I think it should be a setting that you can toggle in the menu (though I don’t think I’ll ever use it).

Anyways, here’s another image to compensate for the text, ok byeee

    • I’m intrigued, as you go to move her legs how do the lines that show her two legs separate move? Are they moved from a lower anchor point or was it just creative initiative for it?

      2023-06-11 22:57:19 UTC 9
      • Replying to: Tastylemon16I’m intrigued, as you go to move her legs how do the lines t

It’s just non-static nodes so that I can adjust it when posing or animating it, it is however connected to the middle node of the skirt to be easier to move.

        2023-06-11 23:05:31 UTC 8
    • Maybe a option to customize the increments it moves by.

      2023-06-11 23:06:50 UTC 7

  • Hade V2, + Nio

Another OC revamp, the old shoes were too big and weird looking. Also, I decided to give him a friend, Nio.

Nio was an OC I made on a whim and she didn’t really fit anywhere with the actual main dudes, but I didn’t want to just have her be out of place, so why not put her with another OC made on a whim. So that’s exactly what I did, also gave them a little story that I could do something with later on.

All I wrote in my documents is that they’re good friends, they share similar interests in music, and they like to spend time at a skate park.

Oh and also that Nio tries to comfort him whenever he continously fails a trick he spends weeks trying to learn.

  • Ruby V2

Original post, but basically the TLDR is: One night some woman gets possessed by the wandering spirit of a dead cat, and due to this she becomes nocturnal and gets very sleepy during the day.

Again, just giving some more attention to the side characters; might even implement them into other stuff, also because the old model looks desaturated and bad yjrunopk
