UNFORGIVEN (2013)

Unforgiven (許されざる 者(Yurusarezaru Mono)) is the 2013 Japanese language feature film remake of the 1992 Clint Eastwood Western of the same name. The setting of the remake moves to the late 19th century Japan shortly after the start of the Meiji Era and stars Ken Watanabe as Jubei Kamata, a former samurai with a reputation of being a brutal killer who is asked by a former associate to accept a bounty to kill the men who attacked and disfigured a prostitute.

Now, the great thing about this movie is that it pays homages and respects to both the western genre, AND the samurai genre, especially by flipping the trope of “samurai movies made into cowboy movies’ that happened back in the 1960’s (which you would know if you saw my last log of course.)

Basically? If you like westerns (like me) and samurai movies (like me), you’re gonna enjoy this.

On October 3, 1849, Poe was found semiconscious in Baltimore, “in great distress, and… in need of immediate assistance”, according to Joseph W. Walker, who found him. He was taken to Washington Medical College, where he died on Sunday, October 7, 1849, at 5:00 in the morning.
Poe was not coherent long enough to explain how he came to be in his dire condition and why he was wearing clothes that were not his own. He is said to have repeatedly called out the name “Reynolds” on the night before his death, though it is unclear to whom he was referring. His attending physician said that Poe’s final words were, “Lord help my poor soul”. All of the relevant medical records have been lost, including Poe’s death certificate.

Simply, it BUILDS upon the first movie WITHOUT trying to overthrow it, it takes all the weak points, makes them better, and leaves the great ones exactly as they were.
