No worries, this is great information. When I was watching your recent video, I realised that you use a lot of block shading so Iโ€™m glad to get your insight.

  • Hey everyone, Iโ€™ve been trying to improve my Stickfigure creation and artistic skills and so Iโ€™ve been playing around with certain art techniques and ideas applied through Stick Nodes.

Today I was working with Block Gradients, which are essentially just blockier, layered colours to simulate a gradient. Iโ€™ve been writing notes and I thought Iโ€™d see if anyone was interested in reading them?

I just want to preface that these notes are written up roughly and then maybe refined before I share them, so if they sound like theyโ€™re trying to state facts rather than opinions or if I make any mistakes, thatโ€™s just an issue on my part.

If you disagree with anything said or if Iโ€™m wrong, youโ€™re welcome to correct me. 💬

Should I share my notes each time I practice something?

    • Ok first of all I absolutely love posts like these. Of course you should post more like this.

Everything you said about block gradients couldnt be more true. Regular gradients are best used to demonstrate soft lighting, just as an airbrush is when you paint. In other words, theyโ€™re better for surfaces that arenโ€™t being harshly cut by shadow.

In my own art, ive actually been using harder shadows more often than softer shadows. I think it about just how you think about your layered block gradients. Applying harder brush strokes in multiple shades is much more satisfying to look at, especially from afar.

Most beginners might think that regular gradients, or soft shadows, are more realistic as that is how we picture shadows in our head. The reality is that both exist, but layered hard shadows will always look better. I can see it in my own artwork. Itโ€™s really all about confidence. We are often too scared to add hard shadows, as soft shadows are often easier to apply.

Though, the best art comes from the confident artist. Thats something that took me a while to learn, and once I did, I improved greatly. Be confident, add hard shadows, block gradients, and layer them accordingly. Thats my advice to everyone.

Also, you may already know this, but I thought Iโ€™d say it anyway for whoever may read this. On the example you showed, add a little reflection light after the darkest shade on the ball. It adds so much more depth and realism in your piece, you can even see it in the reference. This applies to everything, humans, clothes, environments..

Anyways, sorry for the yap lmao

I know youโ€™re a completely different person and all that, but I feel like at certain points, Stick Nodes users and characters come full circle where one older user has their designs and โ€œbrandโ€ replaced with something similar by another user, not in a stealing kind of way, but more of a โ€˜life works in cyclesโ€™ kind of way.

You remind me of @theunexposedentity – Mr Tophat.

❗️ WARNING : This is an EXTREMELY long post with lots of detail about many things pertaining to myself and primarily Lemonline Studios. If you read this all, you are crazy, maybe in a good way, maybe in an odd way, only youโ€™ll know ( mostly by if youโ€™re a homie or not )

I donโ€™t actually know the last time I made a genuine update post, since itโ€™s usually for project specific stuff. On that note, I figured Iโ€™d try and keep track of it and start back at one.

I have a few things in mind that I want to discuss so Iโ€™ll go through each and try and break this post apart a bit so itโ€™s easier to read. 💬

    🍋 Lemonline Studios 🍋
This is my beloved, my child- and I believe in my child. 💓

Jokes aside though, the range of this brand for me- or better yet, the belief of how far it can go and what I want to make out of it, itโ€™s truly something very special and important to me.

I donโ€™t really believe in empty words of faith or promises toward belief without true action. So despite the praise I give it, I know Iโ€™m holding back on expressing just how far I believe it can go and what it can be for different people. Putting the faith and self-belief to the side for now though, I want to specifically discuss projects and what I have planned. 🌅

    📖 PROJECT AGENDA : 📖

Iโ€™ve been unable to offer anything to LLS at this time due to personal restrictions that have directly hindered the progression of LLS, despite this, things seem to be getting better as of recent and I am optimistic about what I can offer to LLS as far as resource are concerned.

I have been studying and reading up on different sources of information that relates to how I can run and manage LLS and itโ€™s only a start. Most of the insight I read up I have some idea on, but once I know I can offer certain resources, such as time and money, then I know I can begin to plan deliberately for what I know I can accommodate for. ✍️

    Anyways, letโ€™s talk specifics..

    | Gaming content 👾
Iโ€™ve been putting gaming videos out for a little bit now, albeit itโ€™s been some time since the last, but a big contributor to our regular content fill will be gaming videos. The idea is to find a better way to manage the process of: Recording > Cutting > Editing > Posting > Marketing so once I have figured something out, getting content out should be way easier. I have some great ideas and visions of what I want to do, but I get caught up on handling all of the details.

    | Occasional animations 📼
These animations will serve as something a bit more meaningful than the regular content LLS will output, but wonโ€™t be huge. Given certain animations gain traction and there are plans for whole series or a longer animation, we will invest to said animation and give the people what they want. I have some animation ideas I already want to try out, but donโ€™t want to lean into making full production projects out of, so these animations will offer free entertainment but also gauge the retention to determine whether to follow-through or not.

    | Collaborative events 👥
As you may already know, weโ€™ve recently been handling the Advertisement Collab 2K26, and whilst Iโ€™ve delayed it, I do plan on releasing it fully. The point here, however, is that other collaborative events are planned and since handling the Ad Collab 2K26, itโ€™s given me SO much knowledge of what to do next time, so the issues this collab has wonโ€™t be likely to happen again.

    | Informative content – Tutorials 🤔
While Iโ€™ve been bidding my time and trying to get some contributions in towards something productive, I have taken up Stickfigure creation again. This wonโ€™t mean that this is the focus for now and for a while, it just means that one of the types of content I plan to release will be informative. A lot of tutorials in Stick Nodes can be more of a vague follow-along than anything truly replicable or intuitive; not only will this content type cover this dilemma, but also will be sourcing knowledge from different creators and pursuits of creating within Stick Nodes, from Character creation, Art design, all the way to Animation itself. Itโ€™ll certainly be a larger undertaking, but there is plans to reach out to different creators and to begin real research into understanding how to create what you wish to create in Stick Nodes.

    | Large-scale Projects 🔆
These will easily take the longest to produce as they will take a marginal amount of time to create and regulate, but also will likely yield the most out of our content. Some of these projects could be long-form animations or entire series, hiring specific talent is necessary here which will be financially steep and time consuming, not excessively so, but careful consideration will be applied here.

That about covers it for LLS at the moment, and primarily focuses on the blunt explanation of what I have planned so if it sounds underwhelming or like the same ideas, thatโ€™s mostly due to current circumstances, but moreso due to the confidenti…[Read more]

    • Yes, I did read allat.

Itโ€™s absolutely great to hear you have so much planned for LLS. With how much passion and planning you have for it, it will be undoubtedly impactful to the community, even those beyond it. Keep up the work boss.

Nice to hear your current philosophy on diet and exercise. I can take away some advice on what you had to say, but not all as im still a beginner myself. Thanks for going into detail on that, it broadens my mind on the subject tremendously.

Lastly, if you ever need talent, specifically for art, let me know. Id gladly help with anything in relation LLS, as I want it to succeed aswell. Iโ€™d even do some work for completely free, as you have been an amazing person to share conversation with, whom I pride in knowing.

Good post Lemon, may you and your child prosper.
